I've been told that actual drawing skill doesn't matter half so much as being able to show the viewer what you are seeing in your head. To that end, I present a drawing for a dress idea I have.
This would turn heads at a prom or would be delightfully elegant in any formal situation. The drawstring sides would allow the wearer to adjust the line to theiri own comfort levels, yet keep the smoothness in the front. The fullness of the skirt where it is gathered in the back would simply add to the richness of the visual.
This is a great design. You are right, I really like to see well thought out and presented designs like this. Even if you are an incredibly gifted artist you can still end up with a fashi0on design that can be interpreted differently. With something like this I can really see the finished piece, and Ithink its going to be really good. I can't quite understand the sleeves though, are they attached to the main dress or seperate? From the front they look attached and fromthe back they look seperate.
At some point, I probably will. I definitely want to experiment with the pull ties on the side to see if it looks as good in real life as it does in my head.
What's frightening to me is that I am about 100X better at drawing than I used to be. I definitely need to keep practicing. A lot!
The sleeves are attached, lightly, under the arms. Unfortunately, I can't draw very well, and in the process of making the back as detailed as I could so that you could see the form, I completely missed actually attaching them to the dress properly.
I've recently found some very very good croqui forms to use and have started practicing with those. If it works, then I'll be able to render much better work, that will be more accurate visually. For now though, please accept my apologies for not getting this one right.
very nice, though some of us might not need anymore help drawing the eye up how is the sleeve attached in the back? it looks like it's hanging there.

Yeah, that was an annoyance and not seen until after I posted. The sleeve is attached under the arm, so it should be smooth all around the arm but leave a bit of room for movement.
I will at some point. I already have the sleeves - in fact, the fabric is what inspired the drawing. Once I hit the right fabric for the body, I am off and running!
